Abu Dhabi F1 test: Leclerc in the lead at mid-session, Gasly very prolific

The drivers met one last time this morning to kick off the F1 test day in Abu Dhabi, intended both for Pirelli tests and for young drivers (see table below for entries). This day began at 9 a.m. local time, or 6 a.m. in France.

It was the occasion in particular for Pierre Gasly at Alpine F1, Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin, Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri and Nico Hülkenberg at Haas, to discover their new team. Oscar Piastri was able to discover the MCL36 at McLaren.

De Vries made a small spin at the start of the session, without consequences. Robert Shwartzman did the same at Ferrari a few minutes later, again without any subsequent problems.

The drivers immediately chained the laps, before another spin on the track, this time for Liam Lawson. Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin, unlike other single-seaters, was devoid of sponsors. Hülkenberg had to put his Haas on its side due to a mechanical problem.

The drivers were very studious and prolific until 11:30 am, when Piastri pulled over, his McLaren having suffered damage. The session resumed after almost a 20-minute break.

Pierre Gasly had a trouble-free morning in the Alpine and chained the laps in the A522, and Piastri was able to get back behind the wheel 40 minutes after the resumption of the session. A limited waste of time for the young Australian, who is working with his new team.

Hülkenberg returned to the track shortly before the break, to check that the repairs on the VF-22 were well done. The pilots then re

It is Charles Leclerc who leads this morning ahead of his teammate of the day, Shwartzman, and Alonso. Sergio Pérez is fourth ahead of Gasly on the Alpine. Valtteri Bottas and Lando Norris follow ahead of Aston Martin’s new development driver, Felipe Drugovich.

Alex Albon and Lawson complete the top 10 ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, Jack Doohan and Théo Pourchaire, who is testing young for Alfa Romeo. George Russell, Pietro Fittipaldi, de Vries, Piastri and Hülkenberg follow, ahead of Logan Sargeant and young Mercedes F1 driver Frederik Vesti, who however has completed 70 laps.

The ranking will soon be updated with the rounds
